| Determine what volume of hydrogen sulfide is formed by the interaction of zinc sulfide with 190 cm3 of 17% hydrochloric acid solution (density = 1.098 g / cm3)
The reaction of zinc sulfide with hydrochloric acid is described by the following equation:
ZnS + 2HCl = ZnCl2 + H2S;
Let’s calculate the molar amount of hydrochloric acid.
M HCl = 1 + 35.5 = 36.5 grams / mol;
N HCl = 190 x 0.17 x 1.098 / 36.5 = 0.972 mol;
In this case, 0.972 / 2 = 0.486 mol of hydrogen sulfide will be formed.
Let’s calculate its volume.
To this end, we multiply the chemical amount of gas by the volume of 1 mole of ideal gas filling the volume of 22.4 liters.
V H2S = 22.4 x 0.486 = 10.886 liters;
