Did the Byzantine Empire reach its power during the reign?

The Byzantine Empire reached its power during the reign of Emperor Justinian. He managed to double the territory of the empire, conquering the coast of Africa, Italy, the Mediterranean islands and part of Spain.

During his reign, a collection of laws was compiled, the so-called “Code of Justinian”.

The greatest architectural monument of that time is the Hagia Sophia (now a mosque in Istanbul).

Justinian is actively pursuing a policy of spreading Christianity in neighboring countries, looking for new trade routes.
