Let’s designate the mass fraction of salt – w (salt), mass of water – m (water), mass of salt – m (salt), mass of solution – m (solution).
m (solution) = m (salt) + m (water)
The mass fraction of salt in solution is the ratio of the mass of salt to the mass of the solution:
w (salt) = m (salt) / m (solution) = m (salt) / (m (salt) + m (water)) = 30 / (30 + 120) = 30/150
w (salt) = 0.2 or 20%
