Do penguins have feathers?

Penguins are birds and therefore their body is covered not with wool, but with feathers. But in appearance, these feathers are very different from ordinary bird feathers. These feathers are more like scales. Penguins do not have down feathers. All of their feathers are rigid, which provides a streamlined shape in the water to increase travel speed by reducing the resistance of the aquatic environment. On land, such feathers protect penguins from gusts of wind. The feathers fit snugly against the penguin’s body, preventing heat from escaping. In order not to freeze, these birds have a very large layer of subcutaneous fat.
