Does red algae have chlorophyll? Why are they red? What advantages does this color give them?

Red algae have two-membrane chloroplasts with single thylakoids, and since chlorophyll is one of the chloroplast pigments, it is masked by phycobilins (red and blue), hence it is present in algae. In algae there is a reserve substance – purple starch, which is stored in the cytoplasm. Red or purple coloration allows the algae to survive in deep water areas.
