Does the litmus turn blue in the presence of acids?

Litmus (aka litmus paper) as an indicator can acquire several colors when interacting with various chemical compounds:

If it is an acidic environment – red (pH <5);
If it is a neutral medium – violet (5 <pH <8);
If it is alkaline it is blue (pH> 8).

pH – scale of acidity of solutions.
