Due to what structural features does the leaf perform the function of photosynthesis?

The leaf blade is flat, so its surface captures a large amount of light and air. Outside, the leaf is covered with skin. It is transparent so that light easily penetrates the leaf pulp, which is composed of columnar and spongy cells. Columnar cells contain chlorophyll. It is a pigment that helps in the conversion of inorganic substances into organic (mainly sugars).
