| During the isothermal process, the volume of gas increased 6 times, and the pressure decreased by 50 kPa. Determine the final gas pressure.
For an isothermal process (T = const), the following relation is valid:
p1 * V1 = p2 * V2,
or
p1 / p2 = V2 / V1.
According to the condition, the gas volume increased 6 times, that is, V2 / V1 = 6. It is also known that the pressure decreased by 50 kPa, that is, p1 = p2 + 50. Substitute these values into the formula and express the desired final value of the gas pressure:
(p2 + 50) / p2 = 6;
1 + 50 / p2 = 6;
50 / p2 = 5;
p2 = 50/5;
p2 = 10 kPa.
