During which crusade was the capital of the Byzantine Empire taken?

Constantinople was taken by the crusaders during the Fourth Crusade in 1204. The trip was organized by Pope Innocent III. Initially, the French crusaders planned to land in Egypt, and from there to reach Jerusalem. However, they did not have a reliable fleet, which forced them to turn to the Venetian Republic for help. The crusaders did not have the money to hire ships, so the Doge convinced them to go to Byzantium, where a power struggle broke out. However, instead of simply changing the ruler, the Crusaders announced the creation of their kingdom in the Balkans. As a result, the Latin Empire was formed.
