Duties of lords and vassals.

The lords provided the vassals with a feud (for good service), and the peasants – allotments of land. They could not take this away from them, provided that they regularly fulfill their obligations. Vassals were supposed to serve the lords 40 days a year, to redeem him from captivity. With the receipt of the feud, the seigneur and the vassal concluded an oral or written agreement, where the duties were strictly regulated. The vassal had the right to refuse to perform duties not provided for by this agreement.
