Eating bivalve molluscs.
Method of feeding bivalve molluscs:
In living toothless, in the back of the shell, the right and left folds of the mantle are tightly pressed against each other, but between them there are two holes – siphons. The gills and inner sides of the mantle folds are covered with cilia. They move continuously and draw water through the bottom siphon. Various protozoa (flagella, ciliates) and small crustaceans are introduced together with water. With the flow of water, they are brought to the mouth, which is located on the body of the animal near the base of the leg. There are tentacles at the edges of the lower siphon. They form a sieve that prevents large foreign particles from entering. The water is drained through the upper siphon. Thus, the mollusk is not looking for food: it constantly receives it along with the flow of water.
