Explain why scientists called the period of history in which the most ancient people lived the Stone Age.

According to one of the accepted periodization of the history of Mankind, all periods are named according to the main material from which the tools of labor were made, which were used in the economy and in hunting.

Therefore, the first period in history was called the Stone Age, since tools were made of stone, mainly flint and quartzite. Although tools made of bone and wood were also used in life.

The Greek name is Paleolithic, “paleo” – ancient and “lithos” – stone. In turn, the Paleolithic is divided into Upper and Lower Paleolithic. The Paleolithic was replaced by the Middle Stone Age – the Mesolithic, and the Stone Age of Mankind ended with the Neolithic (New Stone Age).
