| Find the acceleration with which the body will move if the body mass is 1m. A horizontal force of 5 kN acts on the body, the coefficient of friction is 0.2.
Given:
m = 1 ton = 1000 kilograms – body weight;
g = 10 Newton / kilogram – acceleration of gravity;
F = 5 kN = 5000 Newton – force acting on the body;
k = 0.2 – coefficient of friction.
It is required to determine a (m / s ^ 2) – the acceleration with which the body moves.
According to Newton’s second law:
F – F friction = m * a;
F – k * N = m * a;
F – k * m * g = m * a, hence:
a = (F – k * m * g) / m = F / m – k * g = 5000/1000 – 0.2 * 10 = 5 – 2 = 3 m / s ^ 2.
Answer: the body moves with an acceleration equal to 3 m / s ^ 2.
