Find the area of an isosceles trapezoid ABCD with bases BC and AD if AB = 13m BC = 16m height CH = 12m.

| S = 1/2 (BC + AD) * CH;
The CDH triangle is rectangular. By the Pythagorean theorem:
HD² = CD² – CH²;
Since the trapezoid ABCD is isosceles, then CD = AB = 13 m;
HD² = 13² – 12² = 169 – 144 = 25 (m²)
HD = 5 m;
AD = BC + 2 HD = 16 + 2 * 5 = 26 (m);
S = 1/2 (16 + 26) * 12 = 1/2 * 42 * 12 = 252 (m²).
