Find the coordinates of the intersection of the graphs of the functions: y = -x + 8.1 y = -3x + 7.9

In order for us to find the coordinates of the intersection point of the graphs of linear functions y = -x + 8.1 and y = -3x + 7.9, we will solve a system of these equations.

System of equations:

y = -x + 8.1;

y = -3x + 7.9.

Since each of the equations of the system is an expression of one variable through another, we will solve the system by the substitution method.

System of equations:

-3x + 7.9 = -x + 8.1;

y = -x + 8.1.

Let us find the variable x from the first equation:

-3x + x = 8.1 – 7.9;

-2x = 0.2;

x = 0.2: (-2);

x = -0.1.

System of equations:

x = -0.1;

y = – (- 0.1) + 8.1 = 0.1 + 8.1 = 8.2.

Answer: (0.1; 8.2).
