Find the coordinates of the point M – the midpoint of the segment AB, if the coordinates

Find the coordinates of the point M – the midpoint of the segment AB, if the coordinates of the points A (6; 4) and B (−4; −4) are known.

Given: A (6; 4) and B (-4; -4)

Find: coordinates of midpoint AB

Decision:

The coordinates of the middle of the segment are found as the half-sum of the corresponding coordinates of the ends of the segment: xc = (xa + xv) / 2, yc = (ya + yv) / 2.

xc = (6 + (-4)) / 2 = (6 – 4) / 2 = 2/2 = 1;

уc = (4 + (-4)) / 2 = (4 – 4) / 2 = 0/2 = 0.

Answer: (1; 0).
