Find the length of the sides of an equilateral triangle, the perimeter of which

Find the length of the sides of an equilateral triangle, the perimeter of which is equal to the perimeter of a rectangle with sides of 5 cm and 1 cm.

1. Define the perimeter P1 of the rectangle. To do this, add the lengths of all its sides:
P1 = 5 cm + 5 cm + 1 cm + 1 cm = 12 cm.

2. Since the triangle is equilateral, the lengths of all its sides are equal. Let us denote the length of the side of the triangle by X. Then its perimeter P2 = 3 * X.

3. Let’s compose the equation: P1 = P2 according to the problem statement. That is: 3 * X = 12.

4. Divide both sides of the equation by 3. We get: X = 12/3 = 4 cm.

Answer: the length of the side of the triangle is 4 cm.
