| Find the length of the sides of an equilateral triangle, the perimeter of which is equal to the perimeter of a rectangle with sides of 5 cm and 1 cm.
1. Define the perimeter P1 of the rectangle. To do this, add the lengths of all its sides:
P1 = 5 cm + 5 cm + 1 cm + 1 cm = 12 cm.
2. Since the triangle is equilateral, the lengths of all its sides are equal. Let us denote the length of the side of the triangle by X. Then its perimeter P2 = 3 * X.
3. Let’s compose the equation: P1 = P2 according to the problem statement. That is: 3 * X = 12.
4. Divide both sides of the equation by 3. We get: X = 12/3 = 4 cm.
Answer: the length of the side of the triangle is 4 cm.
