Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose width is 4 cm less than its length and whose area is 32 cm2.

| Let’s denote by x the length of the rectangle. Therefore, its width will be (x – 4) cm.
The area of a rectangle is calculated by multiplying its length by its width. We can make and solve the following equation, since we know the area of the rectangle:
x * (x – 4) = 32,
x2 – 4 * x – 32 = 0.
From here we find that x = 8 cm is the length of the rectangle.
Rectangle width = 8 – 4 = 4 cm.
The perimeter of a rectangle is calculated by adding the lengths of all its sides. Also remember that the sides of a rectangle are equal in pairs. Let’s calculate the perimeter:
P = 8 * 2 + 4 * 2 = 16 + 8 = 24 cm
Answer: The perimeter of the rectangle is 24 cm.
