| In order to find the slope of the straight line given by the equation 5x – 7y – 9 = 0, we must transform it to the form y = kx + b.
Let’s move the terms without y to the right side of the equation, and leave the terms with y on the left.
And we get the equation:
-7y = 9 – 5x;
We divide both sides of the equation by -7 and thereby get rid of the coefficient in front of the variable y:
y = (9 – 5x): (-7);
y = 5 / 7x – 9/7;
y = 5 / 7x – 1 2/7.
y = kx + b.
The slope in this equation is 5/7.
Answer: k = 5/7.
