Find the smallest and largest values of the linear function: y = -3x on the segment [-2; one]

We have a function:

y = -3 * m.

The function is direct proportionality, the graph is straight.

It is important to note that the function is decreasing along the entire number line, since the slope of the line is a negative number.

Since the function is decreasing, a larger value of the argument corresponds to a smaller value of the function, and vice versa, a smaller argument corresponds to a larger value of the function. We get:

ymin = y (1) = -3 * 1 = -3;

ymax = y (-2) = -3 * (-2) = 6.
