Decreased – Subtracted = Difference;

Let us calculate the value to be reduced from the condition of the problem –

Decreased = 1/2 + 1/5 = 7/10;

Find the subtracted –

7/10 – subtracted = 3/20;

Subtracted = 11/20;

Then twice the subtracted is = 2 * 11/20 = 11/10 = 1.1.
