For what purpose did the pharaohs create a large and well-trained army?

The pharaohs of Ancient Egypt created a large and well-trained army for two reasons:
1. Protection of the borders of Egypt from aggressive neighbors. Egypt had fairly long borders, because of which the enemy could attack anywhere. To prevent this, it was necessary to keep military units along the borders, which also performed police functions.
2. Seizure of territories. The pharaohs dreamed of glorifying their name by attacking neighboring territories in order to expand the borders of the state.
