For what purpose was the Washington Conference convened?

The Washington Conference was convened in Washington DC in the early twenties of the twentieth century. This event was one of the first attempts to limit weapons, it was specifically proposed to consider the issue of weapons of the navy. The initiator of this conference was the United States of America, which hoped to balance its military forces with the gaining power of China. The results of the conference were: the balance of power between America, England, Japan and France in the Pacific Ocean; limiting the production of naval weapons in the world; consolidation of the security and sovereignty of China’s territorial borders.
