From a rectangular plate with sides 4cm and 8cm, cut a square piece with a side of 3cm. Find the area and perimeter of the remaining part of the plate.

1. We calculate the area (S) of the cut part of the plate, taking into account that it has the shape of a square, in which all sides have the same length:

S = 3 x 3 = 9 cm².

2. Calculate the initial area (S) of the plate:

S = 4 x 8 = 32 cm².

3. Calculate the area (S) of the remaining part of the plate:

32 – 9 = 23 cm².

3. Suppose you cut out the corner of the plate.

4. Calculate the perimeter of the remaining geometric figure:

P = 3 + 5 + 4 + 8 +1 = 21 cm.

Answer: the area of the remaining part of the plate is 23 cm², its perimeter is 21 cm.
