From two stations, the distance between which is 34 km, two trains departed simultaneously in opposite directions. One train was traveling at 82 km / h and the other at 8 km / h more. What is the distance between trains in 3 hours?

1) Find out what distance the first train covered in 3 hours: 82 · 3 = 246 (km);

2) Determine the speed of the second train: 82 + 8 = 90 (km / h);

3) Let’s calculate how many kilometers the second train traveled in 3 hours: 90 · 3 = 270 (km);

4) To find out what the distance between trains will be in 3 hours, we add the distance between stations (34 km) to the distance between the stations, which were covered by both trains during this time: 34 + 246 + 270 = 550 (km).
