From two villages located at a distance of 27 km, two pedestrians came out at the same time towards each other. They met after 3 hours. One pedestrian walked at a speed of 5 km per hour. How fast was the other pedestrian walking?

The first way.
1. In the first step, we find how many kilometers the first pedestrian traveled in three hours, if we know his speed in one hour.
5 * 3 = 15 kilometers
2. Determine how far the second pedestrian traveled from the village in 3 hours.
27-15 = 12 kilometers
3. Find the speed of the second pedestrian.
12/3 = 4 kilometers
Answer: Four kilometers per hour was the speed of the second pedestrian.

Second way.
1. Find out at what speed the other pedestrian was walking.
(27- (5 * 3)) / 3 = 4 kilometers
