From which civilization did Byzantium inherit imperial power? What significance did Christianity have for strengthening it?

Byzantium, like the Eastern Roman Empire, inherited power from Roman civilization. Over time, the Apennine Peninsula ceased to be a cultural and economic center, there was a shift of business and military activity to the east. In addition, throughout the empire, the positions of Christianity gradually strengthened, even in spite of the persecution.
