Functions and locations of plant tissues.

Plant tissues are broadly divided into dividing or meristemal and permanent tissues. Meristematic cells are small, have a large amount of cytoplasm and a large nucleus to aid in their role in cell division. Permanent tissues are further subdivided into simple permanent (which have only one cell type) and complex permanent (which have different types of cells that come together to perform a specific function). Simple permanent tissues include (with their function in brackets): epidermis (protection), parenchyma (storage), collenchyma (support), and sclerenchyma tissues (strength and structural support). Complex tissues are composed of xylem and phloem.
