Functions of mitosis and meiosis.

Forms of cell reproduction – mitosis and meiosis occur in cells with a nucleus. The result of mitosis is two daughter cells with a set of chromosomes that are located in the mother cell. Mitosis performs the function: the continuity of hereditary information in a number of generations.

Meiosis is a form of division in which sex cells are formed. Its result is 4 daughter cells, each of which contains a chromosome set half as much as in the mother’s cell. Meiotic function: the formation of haploid gametes (sex cells). The latter, during fertilization, restore diploidy in the cells of the future embryo.
