General characteristics of ostriches (digestive, excretory, circulatory, skeleton)

The brightest representatives of ostriches are ostriches.

The digestive system of ostriches is designed for chopping and digesting food, as well as absorbing it. First, food enters the mouth, then through the pharynx into the esophagus (goiter) and only then into the stomach. From the stomach, it goes into the glandular sac, then from the muscular sac it enters the small intestine, and then follows into the large intestine and the bladder. The excretory system consists of the bladder, two kidneys, and two ureters. The system is designed to remove metabolic products from the body.

The circulatory system has 2 circles of blood circulation: the left one with arterial blood, the right one with venous blood, venous blood does not mix with arterial blood in the heart due to the hollow septum. Ostriches have a four-chambered heart. The purpose of the circulatory system is gas exchange and transport of nutrients to the internal organs.

Ostriches have a small sternum, they lack a keel, so these birds do not fly. They also have underdeveloped pectoral muscles and forelimbs, the wings consist of dense plates. These birds run fast, so they have very powerful legs.
