Mesopotamia is an ancient state that was formed not far from Egypt. Mesopotamia was located between two unpredictable rivers: the Tigris and the Euphrates. They fed the state and still helped develop trade along the waterways. The inhabitants of Mesopotamia had the opportunity to exchange goods across the Mediterranean. All active trade was concentrated there. They also had access to the Persian Gulf, which contributed to the spread of peoples to the south and east. The Syrian steppe stretched nearby.
