With the onset of cold weather and a decrease in daylight hours, many plants begin to shed their leaves. This plays an important role. The plant throws out all unnecessary toxic substances into the leaves. Because of this, they change color. Another example is lack of water. The plant begins to adapt and turns off many of the body’s functions to preserve life.
