Give examples and point out the similarities and differences in the reaction of substitution and exchange.

Zn + H2SO4 = ZnSO4 + H2 (zinc sulfate and hydrogen gas) – substitution reaction.

ZnO + H2SO4 = ZnSO4 + H2O (zinc sulfate and water) – exchange reaction.

Similarity: both during substitution and exchange, two substances enter into the reaction, and there are also two reaction products.

Differences: a simple and complex substance participates in the substitution reaction, moreover, the atoms of a simple substance displace the atoms of one of the elements in a complex substance and take its place; during exchange, two complex substances exchange their constituent parts.
