Given a function y = 38-x. Find: A) the value of the function if the value of the argument is 73; -19

Given a function y = 38-x. Find: A) the value of the function if the value of the argument is 73; -19. B) the value of the argument if the value of the function is 55; -26. B) Does the graph of the function pass through point A (140; -120) B (-257; -219)

a) The value of the function y = 38 – x. If x = 73, then y = 38 – 73 = -35. If x = -19, then y = 38 – (-19) = 57.

b) The value of the function argument y = 38 – x is equal to x = 38 – y. If the value of the function is y = 55, then the argument is x = -17. If y = -26, then x = 64.

c) Whether the graph of the function passes through the point is checked by substituting the abscissas and ordinates of the point into the equation of the function:

A (140; -120): 38 – 140 = – 102, not -120;
B (-257; -219): 38 – (-257) = 295, not -257
The graph of the function y = 38 – x does not pass through points A and B
