Given a pentagon ABCDE with sides AB = 7 centimeters, BC = 11 centimeters, CD = 13 centimeters, DE = 5 centimeters, EA = 9 centimeters. Find the perimeter of the pentagon DEFMN if you know that each side of it is 1 cm less than that of the previous pentagon

The perimeter of a pentagon is the sum of all its sides.

If in the pentagon ABCDE: side AB = 7 cm, BC = 11 cm, CD = 13 cm, DE = 5 cm, EA = 9 cm.

So we need to add all these dimensions.

7 + 11 = 18;

18 + 13 = 31;

31 + 5 = 36;

36 + 9 = 45.

The perimeter of pentagon ABCDE is 45 cm.

And if DEFMN has a pentagon, each side of it is 1 cm less than the previous one.

So we need to subtract (5) from (45) the perimeter of the pentagon ABCDE, since the pentagon has 5 sides.

45 – 5 = 40.
