| Given substances nitric oxide (5), potassium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, sodium oxide and water give possible reaction equations.
1. Nitric oxide (V) in these reactions forms nitrates and nitric acid.
N2O5 + 2KOH = 2KNO3 + H2O.
N2O5 + H2O = 2HNO3.
N2O5 + Na2O = 2NaNO3.
KNO3 – food additive E252, fertilizer (potassium nitrate), is a part of black powder.
NaNO3 – sodium nitrate, used for the manufacture of explosives, in pyrotechnics.
2. Reaction of neutralization of potassium hydroxide.
KOH + HCl = KCl + H2O.
KOH – acidity regulator E525, like an electrolyte in alkaline batteries.
3. Hydrochloric acid food additive E507.
HCl + Na2O = 2NaCl + H2O.
4. Sodium oxide forms alkali with water.
Na2O + H2O = 2NaOH.
