Governor of a Roman province.

Governor (also governor, procurator).

Representatives of the nobility (aristocracy) were appointed to this position. Depending on the wealth and potential of the province, the governor could make himself a decent fortune. Often, the position of governor was given as a reward for service, in this case it was regarded as a kind of pension.

The viceroy was responsible for maintaining order in the province, as well as collecting taxes. In urgent cases, the governor could take control of the troops stationed in the province.
