CHARACTERISTIC FEATURES:
They are distinguished by their green color and a set of pigments characteristic of higher plants. Unicellular, colonial, multicellular and noncellular structure.
HABITAT:
Mainly in fresh waters, but some species are found on land, on soil, on the surface of snow and ice, and in thermal springs. Also, many species live in brackish and sea waters. There are about 20,000 known species of green algae.
