Heat engines are widely used by humans. However, it is no secret that they have a number of serious drawbacks. Name them.
A design in which the internal energy from the incoming fuel is converted into a mechanical one is called a heat engine. Internal combustion engines are based on this principle – in cars that use liquid fuel, as well as steam engines and jet engines. At the same time, the efficiency (conversion of expended energy into useful work) is different. From 8% for steam engines to 44% for diesel engines (jet engines and internal combustion engines are in the middle about 25%). Despite this, heat engines have many disadvantages. Since they emit harmful substances into the atmosphere after fuel processing, this harms human health and the environment in general. Today, active scientific work is underway – to find alternative energy sources that are more useful both in work and for the environment.
