Artistic culture of modern times

In the history of world art culture, the 17th and 18th centuries are called the New Time – a period that significantly changed the perception of a person, expanded the horizons of scientific and aesthetic knowledge, marked by decisive changes in almost all spheres of life.

It was during this period that the formation of the national self-consciousness of peoples took place, the borders of states and new forms of their existence were determined. The medieval kingdoms are being replaced by states with an absolute monarchy, a new attitude of states and their citizens to religion and the church is taking shape, and art is being separated from craft. For the first time, art forms new ideals, frees itself from established religious ideas, becomes an independent means of cognition and figurative embodiment of social laws, the most important means of educating a person’s moral qualities. The most valuable in the heritage of the New Age are scientifically developed ideas about the world and the place of man in it.

In this most important period in the development of artistic culture, art is distinguished by a huge stylistic diversity.

One of the characteristic features of the development of artistic culture of this period is the active interaction of different types of art in a single ensemble. In this synthesis, national art schools arose and took shape. It was from this time that the contours of a single world cultural and historical process were outlined. This period is rightly associated with the era of the great masters of the plastic arts, the flourishing of musical culture and the “golden age” of literature and theater.
