Highlights of the 30 Years War in France.

France entered the war in May 1635, although it went on since 1618. Despite the predominantly Catholic population, she found herself on the side of the Protestant camp, that is, Sweden, the Protestant princes of Germany and Holland.

In 1642, the French were victorious in a battle with the imperial forces at Kempener Field. The Catholics were defeated and lost almost all of their artillery.

During the war in 1642, the famous Cardinal Richelieu and King Louis XIII died. Richelieu’s place was taken by Mazarin and in 1643 he defeated the Spaniards, who besieged the Rocroix fortress.

In 1644 France broke off relations with the Vatican due to the election of the pro-Hispanic Pope Innocent X.

The result of the war was the expansion of the territory of France and the weakening of Spain in Europe.
