How and by whom was the Slavic alphabet created?

Writing among the Slavs appeared in 863, even before the adoption of Christianity. It was created by Cyril and Methodius – learned brothers from the Byzantine city of Solun. Each letter in the Slavic alphabet had its own name. Letters could denote numbers: the letter “az” – 1, “beeches” – 2, “lead” -3 … They called the alphabet Cyrillic, in honor of one of the brothers.
