How and why did the ancient Egyptians build irrigation facilities?

In ancient Egypt, agriculture was very developed. Despite this, the climate here was very hot and dry. The only source of moisture was the Nile River, it was also the main source of life for this ancient state. Since there was practically no rainfall in Egypt, the Egyptians had to build irrigation canals in order to give the fields the desired level of moisture. This was especially true for plots of land that were far from the river.
