How are chipmunks different from squirrels?

Chipmunks and squirrels are close relatives and belong to the squirrel family. However, these small animals have a number of external and behavioral differences. Chipmunks are much smaller than squirrels, they have a striped color, while squirrels have a single color. Chipmunks have special pouches on their cheeks, where they collect nuts and seeds in order to transfer them to the burrow, while squirrels do not have such a device. Chipmunks dig burrows, where they hide supplies and hibernate in winter, squirrels hide food under the ground in different hollows and do not hibernate in winter.
