How are plants adapted to living conditions in the desert?

Different plants have different adaptations for life in hot and dry deserts. For example, some trees like saxaul, camel thorn, etc. acquired very long roots that penetrate about twenty meters deep into the ground and reach underground waters. Succulents and cacti have learned to survive by modifying stems and leaves. They retain moisture in thickened stems that they receive during rare rains. Desert mosses and moss dry up for a long time and “wake up” when it rains.
