How are steppe plants adapted to lack of water?

Adaptation of steppe plants to lack of water:

– modified sheets. To reduce transpiration, the leaves of many steppe plants have changed into thorns or become smaller and narrower;
– In some plants, the stem and leaves are used as storage for water. An example is succulents.
