How are the needles located on the shoots?

The location of the needles on the shoots of pine and spruce differ from each other. Pine needles have an elongated appearance and are located on short shoots in pairs. In the spruce, the needles are short, but rather thick, they are located on the shoots each separately. The different arrangement is due to the fact that the needles of pine and spruce have different densities. Since these needles are thinner in pine, two more of them are located on the branches in one place than in spruce.
