How are water particles located when heated and cooled?

All objects around us are made up of particles. Water also consists of the smallest particles. When the water is heated, the particles begin to move faster, hit each other and bounce off a long distance. So, from a liquid state, water turns into steam at a heating temperature of 100˚С. As the water cools, the particles move more slowly, the distance between them decreases, and the water contracts. When it freezes, water expands.
