In the biogeocenosis, in which the squirrel, elk and woodpecker live, the connecting link is the forest (habitat) with trees. Trees combine squirrel, elk and woodpecker into one food chain. Squirrels eat nuts from trees, woodpecker feeds on insects that live in trees and elk, which feeds on shrubs and tree bark.
