How can you determine the age of a tree or branch by tree rings?

The age of trees or their branches can be found by the number of annual rings (annual layers). They are formed during the active growth of the tree during the year (growing season). In the spring and summer, the formation of light, wide-lumen vessels occurs, and in the fall these vessels become much narrower and darker in color. This forms the boundary between the layers, which is visible also with the naked eye. The thickness of the tree’s annual ring depends on the amount of precipitation in the year and the air temperature.
